Living Memorials ProjectNEW! Tutorial showing how to view Living Memorial information on OASIS created by OpenRoad NY. View the tutorial. Because of the overwhelming outpouring of community sentiment
and desire to memorialize the tragic losses that occurred on
September 11, 2001 the USDA Forest Service has responded with the
Living Memorials Project. This initiative will invoke the
resonating power of trees to bring people together and create
lasting, living memorials to the victims of terrorism, their
families, communities, and the nation. Cost-share grants will
support the design and development of community projects in the
New York City metropolitan area, SW Pennsylvania, and the
Washington DC metropolitan area.

The Forest Service also has developed a preliminary assessment of community and forest impacts in and around the World Trade Center site. This PowerPoint presentation begins to explore the depth and extent of the ecological damage caused by the September 11, 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center towers. It also address potential strategies for assisting healing and recovery in lower Manhattan communities. |
